The 5 phases: Wood

Fire, earth, water, and wood are 4 paintings selected from a series of 5 paintings which are related to the 5 phases of Chinese thought.

I prepared the support of each painting by hand. Several layers of gesso protect the support from different thin layers of high quality oil painting.

Here the emphases is colour: red for fire, yellow for earth, black for water, green for wood. In addition, I laid the stress on the yin and yang organs which are connected with each phase. Those paintings are nearly abstract, the colours are very bright because of the several layers of paint on each other. Still there’s a lot of precision in the realization of the figurative elements.

The center of each painting is unpainted.
