Fragmentation: Agnès Sorel, the Angels and the Child
Fragmentation: Agnès Sorel, the Angels and the child is a deconstruction of Jean Fouquet’s Dyptich of Melun. The “Diptych of Melun” a painting made around 1450 by Jean Fouquet constitutes the base of this series of 5 oil paintings. In this assemblage I “deconstructed” the original right panel and set it up again in space.
A major work of the painter Jean Fouquet “Mary surrounded with angels” belongs to the collection of the Royal Museum of Art in Antwerp, Belgium. I made a study of its layout and focused on the auras of this enigmatic portret of Agnès Sorel. I selected five details of the picture and replaced them in space in order to emphasize the essence of the original work.
In 1989 I made the first set up of “Hommage à Jean Fouquet” (private collection, France). In 2011 I got a commission: as a result, I made the same painting with some references to the Italian porcelain service of Emilio Bergamin (private collection, The Netherlands).
I made this third, last version (2019) “Fragmentation: Agnès Sorel, the Angels and the Child” a deconstruction of Jean Fouquet’s diptych of Melun with high quality pigments and oil paint. Only one element of Emilio Bergamin’s motif has been kept.
The 5 paintings can be exposed horizontally or vertically, together or apart from each other.
